  • Happy New Year, good people! You're probably wondering how I got here lol.

One of these pics is from NYE 2014, when I purchased my very first tuxedo. It was a midnight blue, single-breasted, satin shawl collar ensemble with bibbed tuxedo shirt, skull cufflinks (all from Express), a traditional grossgrain cummerbund and diamond-tip bowtie (from The Tie Bar), and patent leather derby shoes (Nordstrom Rack, I believe); I was channeling Daniel Craig in "Skyfall", which had released the previous year, and felt pretty good about my execution at the time. In retrospect I still feel pretty confident I pulled it off well, given my available resources at the time.

Seven NYE's later and I'm looking back from January 1st of 2021; I've since outgrown that 36R tuxedo and passed it down to my younger brother. I now own seven tuxedo combinations (in a 38R these days), a few different bowtie types, and have invested in a proper studded tuxedo shirt, velvet and suede tuxedo pumps, appropriate hosiery for evening-wear, and some very nice silk pocket squares.

I still however wear the same skull cufflinks I purchased back in late 2013, as well as the same diamond-tipped bowtie sometimes. I learned a lot from 2020, but one of the lessons this year did NOT teach me, is that traditional, classic regalia NEVER goes out of style, no matter what GQ or Esquire would have you believe. I learned that lesson years ago, and it's served me eternally well. Here's to the promise of a new yearπŸŽ‰, and the wisdom of an old you. πŸ₯ƒ
